DID YOU KNOW THIS ?
Ten teenagers out of 100,000 decide to kill themselves. These numbers cannot be ignored. Educating our teens about suicide in school and at home can help reduce these numbers, while allowing teens to express their feelings and communicate their problems freely with someone can help save their lives as well. If you or someone you know is contemplating suicide please call 1-800-SUICIDE for more information.
Suicide is now the leading cause of injury deaths, according to a study published in the American Journal of Public Health. Study author Ian Rockett, a professor of epidemiology at West Virginia University, used data from the U.S. National Center for Health Statistics to determine that deaths from intentional and unintentional injury were 10 percent higher in 2009 than in 2000. During that time period, deaths from car crashes declined while deaths from poisoning, falls, and suicide rose. Rockett notes that many of the poisoning deaths may be intentional. Suicides are terribly undercounted, said Rockett. I think the problem is much worse than official data would lead us to believe.
